Stagefright Fix and Stability Improvements for Moto G 2nd Generation now Available For Download in India
Few days back, Motorola announced a new software update for Moto G 2nd Generation smartphone. The update is now available for download in India (I don't know about other countries). I own Moto G 2014 and received the update today. The update mainly has following,
Stagefright Security Vulnerability | Closes a potential security vulnerability that involves the mechanisms used to retrieve a message sent via the Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). |
Stability Improvements | Includes changes that fix bugs and improve the stability of your phone. |
Below is the short description provided by Motorola for Stagefright issue,
Android OS provides a media playback engine called “Stagefright.”
Stagefright is responsible for unpacking and playing the multimedia
message. Depending on a phone’s messaging settings, this could take
place before the phone owner opens the message or views the video. There
is a possibility that a hacker could insert malware in the video. It
could then be processed and access the phone without giving the owner a
chance to evaluate the video attachment.
There is Android App available in Play Store for checking whether your smartphone is vulnerable to Stagefright vulnerability.

I checked my Moto G 2014 using this app and now my phone is not vulnerable to Stagefright issue.
